Requirements for Volunteers

As an appointed volunteer for Ramara Township you will be required to complete and abide by the following:

  • Code of Conduct for Members of Council, Committees and Boards;
  • Criminal Record Checks
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening  – if dealing with vulnerable persons (children, youth, seniors or persons with disabilities);
  • Volunteer Acknowledgement/Release of Waiver;
  • Accessibility Training;

o   Accessible Customer Service;

o   Integrated Accessible Standard Training;

o   Ontario Human Rights Code Training;

  • Occupational Health & Safety Training;
  • AED Training for Community Centre Boards with an AED Unit (Brechin, Longford, Udney)
  • Any other legislation, municipal policy or bylaw as required, i.e. Procurement Bylaw

ADVISORY COMMITTEES

Brechin & Beyond Committee

Purpose:        To create pride in the Township of Ramara encouraging businesses and residents to invest in the future, beginning with the Village of Brechin (Terms of Reference)

Committee:    9 Members for a 4 year term

Meetings:       Second Monday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at the Administration Centre

Community Policing Committee

Purpose:        To maintain a partnership between the community and the OPP; identify and develop solutions of social and criminal concerns; liaise with community to gain better understanding of community concerns; host annual public meeting where police can explain plans and objectives, provide opportunity for public input and generate public support and interest. 

Committee:    25 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       First Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Administration Centre

Emergency Management Planning Committee

Purpose:        Responsible for developing, updating and implementing the Township’s Emergency Plan in accordance with Emergency Management Ontario

Committee:    2 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       Third Wednesday of every other month at 8:00 a.m. at the Atherley Fire Hall plus an annual tabletop exercise

Recreation & Leisure Advisory Committee

Purpose:        To co-ordinate efforts of any community group providing recreation and leisure services; make recommendations to Council on implementing goals of Rec Master Plan. (Terms of Reference)

Committee:    3 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       Fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Ramara Centre

Trails Committee

Purpose:        Plan, develop, fundraise and expand the Trail for Life within the Township (Terms of Reference require updating to include all Trails within the Township)

Committee:    7 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       When required


Youth Committee

Purpose:        Identify youth related issues and empowering youth to make positive changes for the future (Terms of Reference)

Committee:    10 youth and 3 adult positions for up to a 4 year term

Meetings:       First Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Ramara Centre

Wall of Fame Committee

Purpose:        Identify and recommend residents deserving of recognition on the Township’s Wall of Fame (Terms of Reference)

Committee:    5 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       Three times annually

COMMUNITY CENTRE BOARDS OF MANAGEMENT

Purpose:        To manage and control a community centre, athletic field, outdoor skating rink or other community facilities Community Centre Boards of Management 2016.32 (Repeals 2009.41, which was amended by 2012.22 - Atherley CCB - Lovely Day Park) (Amended by 2016.49)

Committee:    Minimum 5 positions for a 4 year term

Atherley CCBM      Lovely Day Park, 3 Winchester Street at Creighton Street.

                                    Meetings:  second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Atherley Fire Hall

Brechin CCBM       Brechin Ball Park, 3227 Ramara Road 47

Lagoon City Public Beach, 116 Lake Avenue

Beach Lot, 2641 Lakeshore Drive

Meetings:  second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Brechin Ball Park Building

Longford CCBM    Longford Community Centre, 3854 Longford Mills Road

Meetings:  second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Longford Community Centre

Udney CCBM          Udney Community Centre, 2347 Concession Road 10

Meetings:  second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Udney Community Centre

STATUTORY COMMITTEES

Committee of Adjustment

Purpose:        Decision making body for severance of land and minor variances to the Township’s Zoning Bylaw;

Committee:    5 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       Second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at the Administration Centre

Court of Revision

Purpose:        To hear appeals under the Municipal Act for municipal works which have been constructed under local improvements.

Committee:    3 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       As required, generally once or twice a year

Fence Viewers

Purpose:        Oversee fence disputes between property owners under the Line Fences Act

Committee:    3 positions (2 alternates) for a 4 year term

Meetings:       As required, maybe once per year

Property Standards Committee

Purpose:        To hear appeals from property owners or occupants who are not satisfied with the terms of an Order issued by the Township’s Property Standards Bylaw

Committee:    3 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       As required, once or twice annually during the day

BOARDS

Ramara Public Library Board

Purpose:        To govern a legal corporation with the authority to make policies in the best interest of the community and under the Public Libraries Act, RSO 1990, c. P.44.

Board:            7 positions for a 4 year term

Meetings:       Third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramara Centre

Mara Medical Centre Board

Purpose:        To operate and maintain the Medical Centre in Brechin.  (The Board is currently finalizing renovations to the Centre and are working with the Orillia Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee to attract a physician to Brechin)

Committee:    1 position for a 4 year term

Meetings:       As required, approximately 5 times per year at the Administration Centre
