Our Commitment
You are entitled to expect the highest standards of conduct from members that are elected or appointed to serve their local government.
Our Code of Conduct for members of Ramara's Council and its Boards and Committees, formally ensures that official duties are conducted in an appropriate manner. These standards demonstrate Ramara's commitment to transparent, accountable and ethical government.
Amended by Bylaw 2013.39
Administered by our Integrity Commissioner, a written Code of Conduct helps to ensure that the members of Council, Committees and Boards share a common basis of acceptable conduct. These standards are designed to work alongside existing legislative framework in place. They are intended to enhance public confidence that the Township of Ramara's elected and appointed officials operate from a basis of integrity, justice and courtesy.
Ramara's Code of Conduct regulates a wide range of conduct by elected and appointed officials, such as:
- confidential information;
- gifts and benefits;
- use of Township property, services and other resources, including using Township facilities for campaign purposes;
- conduct respecting current and prospective employment;
- efficient use of resources to avoid waste;
- business relations;
- behaviour at Council meetings;
- treatment of staff;
- use of influence;
- behaviour towards other Councillors, staff and members of the public; and,
- importance of following Council policies.
The code also outlines the process for informal and formal complaints.
To further our commitment to integrity, Ramara also has a Code of Conduct for Staff, which serves as a guide to staff in the conduct of their duties.
