Special Committee of the Whole - January 18, 2023

Proposed 2023 Budget

The Director of Finance presented the proposed 2023 municipal budget based on recommendations passed at the December 5, 2022, Committee of the Whole meeting that was ratified at the December 12, 2022, Council meeting. The Committee approved changing the following with the proposed budget:

• Increasing the Council budget by $4,200 for new chairs in the Council Chambers
• Increasing the Fire budget by $7,500 to allow one dry hydrant in Bayshore Village and for the Fire department to implement a plan to install one dry hydrant per year
• Moving the Community Improvement Plan project from the Planning Budget to the Economic Development Budget
• Reducing the Udney Centre Community Board Budget by the amount received by COVID funding
• Increasing Atherley Community Centre Board Budget by $5,000 for a waterfront design project
• Increasing the Library Budget by 8.5% over the 2022 budget, with 5% of the increase allocated toward electronic education and training
• Budgeting $2,900 towards the Ramara Chamber of Commerce

The Committee approved a 3.5% increase on the municipal portion of the 2023 Tax Rate with any surplus funds being directed to reserves.
