A Special Weather Statement is in Effect 

Please be advised that Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Ramara regarding significant freezing rain amounts between 5 to 15 mm, with the possibility of amounts increasing to 20mm from Friday evening through to Monday.

With the amount of freezing rain expected, power outages, slippery surfaces, and deteriorating road conditions are possible.  

Be prepared:

• Freezing rain can create dangerous conditions. Avoid driving if possible, and wait for road crews to treat icy roads. 
• Stay clear of power lines, keeping at least 10 meters (33 feet) away. 
• If you have livestock, move them to shelter with accessible feed, as forage may be blocked during ice storms.
• Build a 72-hour emergency kit for you, your family and pets.

If there is a power outage:

• Turn off and unplug appliances and electronics, except for your refrigerator and freezer.
• Turn down heating/cooling systems to the minimum to prevent damage when power is restored.
• Keep one light on inside to alert you when power is restored.
• Keep one light on outside to alert utility workers when power is restored.
• Only use portable space heaters that are designed for indoor use.
• Use a natural gas fireplace to provide warmth, if available and necessary.
• Do not use a gas stove or oven as a heat source — it could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Do not use charcoal or gas barbeques, camping stoves, or home generators indoors. The exhaust from these items create carbon monoxide or smoke which is dangerous and can be fatal.

Please contact the Infrastructure department if your culvert is backed up or if you are experiencing flooding on the road.
