FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
County of Simcoe battery collection week runs November 6-10
Midhurst/November 3, 2023 – It’s time to roundup dead batteries as curbside battery collection returns for County of Simcoe residents November 6-10, 2023.
This program is vital to protecting the environment by keeping batteries, which contain harmful substances, out of the garbage and landfills.
Battery bags with instructions were mailed to households in mid-October. Batteries can also be placed in clear, sealed bags. Residents can set out battery bags on their regularly scheduled collection day, during the week of November 6-10. Battery bags must be placed on top of a closed cart for collection.
The program is for single-use batteries only, including type AAA, AA, A, C, D, 9 volt and button batteries commonly used for hearing aids and watches. Rechargeable batteries, cell phone and laptop batteries, car, industrial and battery packs are NOT accepted in the program but may be taken to a municipal household hazardous waste facility for safe, free disposal.
Collected batteries are consolidated and sent for processing to separate the various components, with approximately 90 per cent of the battery components being recycled.
