Help shape your community and apply to be on one of Ramara's Committees or on the the Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission
Ramara, ON – May 30, 2024 – Are you looking for a volunteer experience, or would you like to be involved with decisions and plans that affect your community? The Township of Ramara has volunteer positions on five Committees or one position on the Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission. The term of each vacancy for the Committees ends on November 2026 after the 2026 municipal election. The Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission vacancy term ends June 30, 2027.
We are looking for new members to join the following Committees and Commission:
- Appeals Tribunal
- Brechin and Beyond
- Committee of Adjustment/Property Standards
- Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission
- Rooted in Ramara
- Youth Action Committee
Overview of Committees
Appeals Tribunal
The Appeals Tribunal has been established to hear appeals filed against the following bylaws: the Short-Term Rental Accommodation Bylaw, the Shorewall Bylaw, the Canine Control Bylaw, the Business Licensing Bylaw, and Future bylaws adopted by Ramara Council with appeal provisions. Hearings will take place on an as-required basis.
Brechin and Beyond
Brechin and Beyond Committee is responsible for creating pride within the Township by encouraging businesses and residents to invest in the future of Ramara through beautification projects, art projects and more. The Committee meetings monthly on Tuesdays.
Committee of Adjustment/Property Standards
The Committee of Adjustment makes decisions on certain planning applications regarding Consent and Minor Variances under The Planning Act and is appointed by Council. As well, Committee of Adjustment members hears appeals from property owners and occupants who are not satisfied with the terms of an Order issued under the Property Standards Bylaw. Committee of Adjustment meets monthly and Property Standards Committee meets on an as-required basis.
Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission
The Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission is responsible for managing, maintaining and regulating the waterways, private parklands, two footbridges, and connecting paths located within Lagoon City. The applicant must by a levy-paying Lagoon City resident. The appointment is for a three-year term ending June 30, 2027. The Commission meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month.
Rooted in Ramara
The Rooted in Ramara Committee educates the community on gardening and food sustainability while creating food security through community initiatives for positive change and food independence. The Committee meets monthly.
Youth Action Council
The Youth Action Council (Y.A.C.) develops and organizes activities for Ramara's youth and serves as a voice for youth issues in the township. The Y.A.C. is currently postponing meetings until new members join.

The public can find more information about each Committee or the Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission and instructions on how to apply online on the Township's page at www.ramara.ca/applynow. Applications will close on June 19 at 4:30 p.m.
