Statement from CN
In 2018, CN identified Mi. 93.00 to Mi. 98.60 on the Newmarket subdivision located in Simcoe County near the Township of Ramara as “discontinue” on CN’s Three-Year Network Plan . The lines CN intends to continue to operate or discontinue identified on the Three-Year Network Plan are subject to change.
CN is currently reviewing its 2018 decision. Since early 2022 CN has been using its land and infrastructure on this track for staging and storing purposes. CN is not considering re-implementing freight operations in the Ramara area. While residents have, and may continue to notice new activities, CN is sensitive to the impact of our activities on our neighbours and we remain in contact with local officials. CN will accommodate local concerns and issues when and where it can.
General activities currently, and anticipated, to be in this area are the storage of rail cars and housing/boarding cars during winter months. Please note it is not CN’s intention to use housing/boarding cars while stored at this location. Additional activities will include the storage of track material and the staging of equipment which has been ongoing since early 2022.
Should members of the public wish to reach out to CN directly they may do so by reaching out to the Public Inquiry Line.
